The Fresno County Public Law Library is seeking qualified candidates for its Full-time Library Assistant II position. Please, read the below for more information.
Position Definition:
Under the supervision of the Library Director, the Law Library Assistant II performs numerous duties to facilitate the law library’s mission and overall function, Monday through Friday, 8AM to 5PM.
Duties of Position:
The duties of Library Assistant II employees include, but are not limited to:
- Process, file, update, and shelve library material
- Receive, log, and distribute library mail and parcels
- Process and monitor the circulation of library material, including renewals and overdues
- Create and maintain collection, patron, circulation, and serial records
- Collect and accurately report all patron fines and generate and distribute overdue and fine notices
- Greet library patrons, reply to their inquiries, and provide directional information regarding the location of library materials, courthouse facilities, and other nearby public resources
- Assist library patrons with the use of the library’s public printer, photocopier, and catalog
- Assist patrons with basic legal information requests
- Answer the library’s telephone and respond to the library’s voice mails
- Operate the library’s cash register, obtain change, and assist with preparing deposits
- Communicate with and compose correspondence to vendors
- Maintain library inventory
- Monitor the library facility and equipment, request service when needed
- Distribute work to and oversee the work of Library Assistant I
- Generate reports for the Library Director
- Maintain calendars for library personnel and library functions
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must have a high school diploma or its equivalent and at least one year of experience working in an office environment. Applicants must be able to use personal computers and Microsoft Office. They must be detail oriented and reliable. They must also be able and willing to communicate verbally with people of varying education, ability, means, and backgrounds in a fair, tactful, and courteous manner. Applicants should also be able to follow instructions as given by the Library Director.
Desired Qualifications and Skills:
- Knowledge of general library procedures and practices
- Ability to communicate with Spanish-speaking patrons
- Knowledge of legal materials and resources, their use, and basic legal terminology
- Knowledge of California and Federal legal systems
Employment Benefits
SALARY- Commensurate with experience and comparable to similar positions.
MEDICAL – the Law Library contracts with CalPERS for providing health benefits. The Law Library partially subsidizes the premium for the employee.
RETIREMENT and SOCIAL SECURITY – The Law Library participates as a public agency in CalPERS retirement plan, 2% at age 62, integrated with Social Security, contributed by both the employee and the Law Library.
VACATION/SICK LEAVE – The Law Library offers a single “annual leave” for the purpose of vacation and sick leave. Employees accrue time each month that totals 18 days annually and increases in steps after 3 years.
HOLIDAYS – 10 Paid holidays per year.
