John Adams

    Public Sector Experience:

    John has fifteen years of public sector experience working for the County of Fresno in the Department of Public Works and Planning. He started in Economic Development researching areas for industrial park development and then moved to Community Development where he traveled extensively throughout the County helping small communities with HUD funding. John transferred to the Development Services Division where he currently manages the General Plan, coordinates with city partners regarding annexations and evaluates applications for compliance with the Williamson Act, (a State initiated farmland preservation program).

    Private Sector Experience:

    In the private sector, he managed hundreds of thousands of dollars for twenty plus years as a Purchasing Manager for several local manufacturing firms and managed millions of dollars in private trust accounts.


    John earned a MBA with an emphasis in Strategic Management and Marketing in1991 while working fulltime and helping raise a family of four children. As of December 2017, John and his wife Kristie have four grown children and 14 grandchildren ranging in age from 19 years to five months.

    Public Sector Activism:

    During the Great Recession, he created extensive MS Excel budget spreadsheets that presented other options to the Board of Supervisors instead of the salary cuts that were imposed on employees by the Board of Supervisors. He has fought for reduced health insurance costs from the San Joaquin Valley Insurance Authority (SJVIA) and the Board.

    Greatest Achievement:

    All four of his grown children have college degrees and some have advanced degrees and/or medical certification.

    Goals as Trustee:

    • Johnís first goal is for FCERA to realize a 95 to 100 percent funding ratio through prudent investment allocation.

    • Johnís second goal is to reduce FCERA member service purchase, contribution adjustment, and retirement request response times from weeks or months to days.

    • Johnís third goal is to appropriately staff FCERA in order to address member service request response times.
