Cal-Learn is a statewide program designed to help pregnant and parenting teens earn a high school diploma or GED, prevent repeat pregnancies and become job ready. With financial bonuses and penalties, Cal-Learn helps motivate teen parents to achieve their educational goals.

Who Can Participate?

Cal-Learn is MANDATORY for teens that are:

  • Receiving cash assistance;
  • Under age 19 at orientation;
  • Without a high school diploma or GED;
  • Pregnant or residing with their children.

Cal-Learn participants:

  • Attend a full-time education program which will provide a high school diploma or GED;
  • Submit their report cards or progress reports according to the schedule developed with their case manager;
  • Have the opportunity to receive financial bonuses or penalties after participating in the program for 90 days;
  • May have an opportunity to continue in the program until they turn age 20;
  • Can receive a $500 bonus upon graduation.
